This palm can be grown in USDA Hardiness Zones 10a-11. The common name for Coccothrinax Crinita comes from the light colored beard around the trunk. The Old Man Palm grows slowly but is a must have for any palm enthusiast. Old Man Palms like full sun and can grow up to 15'.
If you have never seen an Old Man Palm in person come by the nursery and take a look even if you are not going to buy one. Its worth the trip just to see the beard.
